Introduce yourselves hombre's as a crew and individually Well we're the OLC, the teams a lucky number 7: made up of the Raek, Ears, Chex, Name, Enok, Kone and Airforce So then, the mighty olc, your well known in the uk for doing some nice walls, and lots of them how long has the crew been about, and who’s brainchild was it.
The gang was formed back in the late 90's as a partnership between the Raek and Ears and as Plymouths scene grew so did the crew. Similar minded peeps were welcomed on board over the years. Recently members have moved out of Plymouth so now the crews represented in The North and Wales, whilst retaining a West Country core. Despite the distance we do tend to manage an annual AGM, last year Bedminster was the venue and this years has yet to be decided on.
It would be rude not to ask what it mainly stands for, so can you enlighten us? On Line Crime, as the initial main focus of the crews instigators were track sides with the occasional panel thrown in. Over the years assorted interpretations have sprung up, most recently One Large Cornish; being a Plymouth based crew you've gotta have lots of love for the pasties.
And who are the key members? There are no key members as such everyone plays there own role. Some are more into the self promotion side of things e.g. Raeky, who does a damn good job of getting his stuff into mags from the UK and abroad and is single handedly raising the profile of the crew. Whereas other members prefer to keep things much more low key, to the extent of not taking photos or keeping any record of their pieces. So just cos you might not see a lot from some of the team, doesn't mean they aren't keeping busy.
You seem to travel around the country a lot, do you think that is an important part of what you do? Now that the crew is more spread out so is the painting, if we want to get together it's not a case of a few quick calls and a rendezvous down the local HOF, it takes a little more planning these days! Getting about has definitely been important in the development of the crew. To begin with we were a little insular and happy with it. But trips to Bristol, Cardiff, Brighton etc have meant hooking up with other crews, seeing some mad styles, and meeting some crazy people. Painting your own HOF time and time again gets a little monotonous, especially when you can make a to Bristol and bump into several heads just by being in Bedmo, this is the sort of thing that just doesn't happen in Plymouth, or Cardiff to a certain extent.
So then have you got a favourite place/town in the UK that you like to paint? Favourites have got to be Bedminster, Totnes, Cardiff and obviously Plymouth, although spaces to paint are a little more limited in Plymouth these days. When a Brighton writer was passing through he was blown away by the variety of places to paint Plymouth had on offer. Especially as most were a result of the good rapport between the Graff peeps and the local council. This led to said writer using the idea and as a result the sleeping giants jam was born, whilst we can in no way claim credit for it we definitely planted the seed!
What you got planned for the rest of this boiling hot summer, any Easyjet treats? Get to as many of the UK jams as is possible, especially as there seem to be so many on offer. To pull off our annual AGM, which'll mean everyone getting their diary's out! As far as travel abroad nothing's been planned as yet, possibly a late season trip to Barca once it cools down a bit.
Some shouts: All the crews and individuals we've met in recent years: AAGH, CVK, 586, Queg, Floor, Taffy, Jeus, Zare, Oboy, Phatty, and all the ladies...
